Trump: Greenland Deal Still Under Negotiation; No Intention to Pay Acquisition Costs

U.S. President Donald Trump stated on Thursday that details regarding a deal for Greenland are still being negotiated. This comes a day after he withdrew tariff threats and ruled out the possibility of seizing the Danish territory by force. In an interview with Fox Business, Trump acknowledged that his intention to acquire Greenland has impacted global markets and stated he has no intention of paying an acquisition fee.

“There are indeed negotiations currently underway regarding the relevant details,” he said. “But overall, this will mean complete openness, with no end point and no time limit.” When asked how much he would be willing to pay for the semi-autonomous territory, Trump added, “We don’t have to pay anything, other than building the ‘Golden Dome.'”

He stated that any agreement would allow the United States “full access” to Greenland, including for military purposes: “We’re going to get everything we want at zero cost.”
